There is about 24 acres of grounds that are not gardens. Some of this is minimally managed, some left wild so becoming a wildlife haven. We keep some poultry and occasionally let the grounds out for grazing. We do not have the immaculate green fields so typical of many farms. There has been no use of artificial fertiliser for many years, if ever. The grounds consist of:
- 3 fields or paddocks, sown with a wildflower meadow mixture
- A small field with a duck pond and chicken shed. This is left empty for some time of the year to allow it to recover, although it is never intensively stocked
- 4 larger fields, 2 of which are fenced, all of which have been re-sown with a grass and meadow mixture
- Large areas of rough grazing, some of it on very marshy ground. This, I am lead to believe, has never been 'improved'
- A small wooded stream at the far end of the property
- Wonderful views over the Cors Caron valley to the Cambrian Mountains.
The land is either level or gently sloping - no mountain sides here! We have never kept much stock on the grounds nor exploited the potential for letting the land. We have kept a couple of pigs on two occasions and two goats for 18 months. In the past, the grounds have been let to a farmer to overwinter sheep on the property. Last winter there were two young horses overwintering here.
There is much wildlife and wildflowers around the property. Wild orchids and other wild flowers grow in the spring and I lost count of the different types of fungi growing in the autumn. Each day is different and you see new things all the time. If you like photography there is a wealth of opportunity (see the vendor's photographs, taken at the property, in the Environment Gallery of the his photography website.
A panoramic photo has been prepared to show the extent of the property - this was taken from slightly higher land to the south-west. In the second photo the black line roughly outlines the extent of the property. I hope this helps!
Note: there are NO rights of way across the property
